Block 5-Sukey's Corner

Ok, here's the 5th installment. It's called Sukey's Corner...

Here's the back of the block:

Notes concerning this block:

1. You were given enough green fabric to fussy cut the middle block.

2. The corners can be cut as indicated in the pattern using triangle 13 and as demonstrated by Helen. Remember, this is the plaid fabric and she had her triangle template marked to match the stripe she wanted. Or, you can just by pass this step and cut 2 1/2" squares. If you do the corners as instructed, you will need to press carefully. Here's the pressing for your reference....

3. You will be cutting 8 rectangles from rectangle template #25 of the background fabric. You will use triangle template 11 and lay on the rectangle but only trim off one end. Be sure and put two rectangles at a time together (right sides together) to make your pair. (Just like a sleeve pattern - left and right side, ok?)
The instructions refer to this as a modified 25-G rectangle.

Ok, there it is, I hope these pictures and tips help you. This quilt is coming together and I'm getting excited. I love this fabric. Don't forget to pick up your border fabric and your finishing kits. Have fun and happy sewing....

Block Number 2 - Blowin in the Wind

Okay, here's Block Number 2- Blowin' in the Wind

This is the middle part. This picture shows the back of the pinwheel. You sew the pieces together then clip. Fan the middle out and press so it won't be so bulky.

Here's the front of the pinwheel. This is the middle of the block.

These are the steps of the block.

This is the back of the block. If you look close, you will see the pressing directions of the block.

Ok, here's the finished product..Ta Da, Block Number 2. This block is called: Blowin' in the Wind.

Now, here's a preview of the quilt. I didn't realize I was too close to the quilt and didn't get the beautiful borders. I'll do better next month....This quilt is beautiful and I am so enjoying working on it...

More Pictures - Work in Progress

Ok, I took more pictures Saturday but didn't post them because I did not want to confuse anyone. I was asked to put these on so people could see more of the quilt and fabric. These are future blocks but not in the right order....Please enjoy these. Let me know if you think this is confusing or overwhelming. Maybe I should just post the quilt when the sample is up or do you like to see it this way? What do you think? This is supposed to help you so if it is not helping, let me know.

Hello and welcome to Thomas Quilt BOM for 2009

Hello and welcome to Thomas Sewing Center Block of the Month for 2009. We are doing another Marti Michell pattern this year. I will be taking pictures each month and posting them here. I will try to take a picture of the front and back of the blocks and post anything that is important about the block. If you need help with the block, you can ask questions here. This is a 12 month quilt and requires Marti Michell templates sets A, B and D. More info about the quilt will be given as more info is made available to me. The first block was $5.00 and was available Saturday, April 11th. The following blocks will be free of charge if you bring and show your blocks the 2nd Saturday of each month at the store from 10:00-12:00. If you do not pick up your block at that time, the next block will be $5.00. These rules will be enforced this year.

Here is the first block. I did not get a copy of the back of the block this time but will try really hard to get this for you next month.

This is the template for the plaid fabric around the center. If you click on the picture you will see that Helen marked her template so she could line up her stripes better. You will have enough fabric in your package to fussy cut the plaid.

Good luck and have fun with the block. If you need help or have any suggestions, leave a comment. Or if you just feel friendly, leave a comment and let me know how you like this blog....til next month....
